ANDY CARGILL - MD & MUSIC MAKER

:

How did u get into music?
"I have been involed with music for more years than I can now remember! I started playing guitar when I was around 11 years old - and its gone on from there. In terms of Music Making with young people, I have always enjoyed exploring how music is used to educate young people - The most memorable workshops that come to mind are those sessions with Special Needs Groups and Excluded Youth People - I guess I love the challenge."

What do you do in Kayto Sound?

"In Terms of 'Business' - Kayto Sound has grown as my knowledge of the Youth Sector has grown I guess... I have moved slightly more into the project development and management role now - as we have a few more tutors working with the company... but I'm planning to get more involved in the actual delivery again in 2008."

Best bit about the job?
"Its a great job! There is nothing better than helping someone take there first steps into music! Its magical! That first track they complete - burn onto CD and take home... its like Christmas! I also enjoy the more long term effects of our work with young people - There a quite a few that are now young adults and have gone onto study music full time... and to think that I had an input into that is amazing!"

Ambitions?
"It used to be to make KAYTO SOUND a leading player in 'First Step' education for young people... nationally! But now I'm more into working with exciting organisations and developing great projects for young people...that and developing my own music.... a nice 50/50 balance would be perfect!"

Worst part of the job?
"Accounts and Cash Flow... I recon I spent half of 2007 looking at numbers... but then saying that, I've learnt loads about running a company over the last year or so"
