Primary to Secondary Transition Projects

Partnership
Open the door to a fresh way of supporting primary school students as they prepare for their step up to secondary school.

We work closely with our customers in using music as a vehicle for promoting a positive first experience of secondary school and encouraging students to creatively explore any negative feelings they may have in a fun, engaging and enjoyable setting.

A transition project can encourage new friendships; through students from various schools coming together to take part a project.

Creating a project
We have developed a highly successful one-term project outline, which was launched in 2010 and generated very positive feedback.

We are able to tailor the program to suit a schools aims and objectives. This can range from a single 2-hour session through to a two-term bespoke project, typically containing two hours of delivery a week.

Engaging Through Music Making
At the heart of our transition projects is Music Making.

Music Making involves students working with a music leader and our mobile recording software and instruments. Music Making is highly engaging and encourages students to explore their creativity in a fun and informal environment. Each student contributes towards writing and recording a song. They then receive a CD of the song at the end of the project.

Our Bespoke Projects
To increase group sizes and create a more vibrant transition project we can weave in addition elements to run alongside our Music Making core element:

Delivery and Learning Outcomes
Programs can be delivered in any location. You may choose to run some sessions at the primary schools to lead into future sessions at the secondary school? Or even arrange for some fun trips to recording studios or tours of venues to encourage students from different primary schools to get to know each other a little better?

Every transition project includes our own evaluation questionnaire with asks the students a range of questions in relation to the music program and their feeling towards starting secondary school.

Engaging students through specialist tuition
All Kayto Sound tutors are CRB checked, insured and trained music tutors. Each of our tutors is active in the music industry and has a specialist subject, which they deliver. This means that our tutors are able to provide the additional dimension of a ‘real life’ industry experience and share their passions with students.
